Imagine reading the Bible for the first time in your own language.

Now think about being someone who has lived in a remote area of the world.

Much of the knowledge we have of the Bible gets filled in when we study in school, or watch movies, or talk with our grand parents.  We often take for granted what we know about the Bible from our culture.

For many here in Papua New Guinea their history lessons are about their families, their culture and their area.

Their stories don’t have information about different climates, cultures, or different areas of the world.

In order to add to their knowledge the Training Center here in Ukarumpa welcomes Papua New Guinean translators to the Translator’s Training Course.

With this understanding they are better equipped to make an accurate translation.

They are also equipped to be better teachers of the Word.

Above is a poster that students made learning about the Biblical Feasts and how sacrifices worked.

Another poster talks about the different types of houses in the Bible.

Here are some of the graduates from the six weeks course.

These translators have left their gardens (their main source of food for themselves and their families)  and their homes to learn.

They sacrifice a lot to be here so they can be a bigger asset to their translation project.

It was humbling and exciting to watch this group of men and women graduate.

We even had some men from the island (Kar Kar) where we went for village living.

They will take their knowledge back to teach our family and the other people of Kar Kar in their own language (Waskia) about who God is in new ways!
